We’re delighted to have you at Bandon Golf Club! To ensure everyone enjoys a fair and smooth round, please familiarise yourself with our local playing rules before you tee off. They’re designed to protect the course, respect fellow players, and preserve the beauty of our historic parkland setting.

Definitions

Out of Bounds: A Ball is Out of Bound only when All of it is outside the boundary edge of the course

Local rules

  1. The course-side edge of any wall defines the boundary of the course unless
    otherwise governed by white stakes/lines or Local Rule No.2 below. Rule 18.2.

  2. A player’s ball coming to rest on or beyond public road L2021 and the road
    leading from public road L2021 to Castlebernard Showgrounds is out of
    bounds, even if it comes to rest on another part of the course that is in
    bounds for other holes.

  3. Young trees identified by support stakes are No Play Zones – if a player’s
    ball lies anywhere on the course, other than in a Penalty Area (Water
    Hazard), and it lies on or touches such a tree or such tree interferes with
    the player’s stance or area of intended swing, the player MUST take free
    relief. Rule 16.1.

  4. If a player’s ball hits an overhead power line or supports of same (within
    the course boundaries) the stroke MUST be replayed – no penalty.

  5. If a player’s ball lies off the putting green, but not in a bunker or
    Penalty Area (Water Hazard), and a sprinkler head, located either on the
    putting green or within two club lengths of the putting green, and within
    two club lengths of the ball, intervenes on the line of play between the
    ball and the hole, the player may take free relief. Rule 16.1.

  6. Free relief is available from Sprinkler Heads, Manhole Covers, Timber Steps,
    Internal Railings, Tee Markers, Distance Markers (Stakes & Fairway Discs),
    Seats, Ball Washers, Notice Boards/Signs, Staked Tree Poles and Stays, White
    Direction Stone on 2nd Hole, Bell on 2nd hole, Alternative Holes on the
    putting green (if interfering with line of play of a ball on the putting
    green), Roads and Paths on the course (even if not artificially surfaced).
    Rule 16.1.

  1. Penalty Area Stakes & Signs are Movable Obstructions. Free relief available
    under Rule 16.1.
  2. During competition neither a player nor a caddie is permitted to ride on any
    form of motorised transportation except with the prior authorisation of the
    Committee.
  3. A Designated Practice Area is an area of ground indicated by BLUE MARKERS
    and may be used for putting and chipping practice on competition days.
    Practice strokes from this area MUST NOT be played to any other part of the
    course.
  4. A Designated Practice Area, with the exception of practice greens, is
    considered to be in bounds on the course in play.
  5. Practice putting and chipping greens located within a Designated Practice
    Area are considered to be Wrong Greens (Wrong Putting Greens) and free
    relief MUST be taken. Rule 13.1f.
  6. Damage that is clearly identifiable as having been caused by animal hoofs
    is considered an Abnormal Ground Condition (Ground Under Repair) and free
    relief is available. Rule 16.1.
  7. If a player’s ball lies in or touches an aeration hole on the putting green
    free relief may be taken. Rule 16.1.
  8. When an artificial teeing mat is part of the course in play, the tee shot
    on that hole MUST be played from the artificial surface.

Penalty for Breach of Local Rule

  • Strokeplay – Two Strokes
  • Matchplay – Loss of Hole

It is Strictly forbidden to enter private property at right of 3rd/ 4th & 5th, left of 12th and back of 15th hole
